Yangon Region Social Affairs Minister, Naing Ngan Lin said that action will be taken on those failing to wear masks, and on opening of KTV's, Night Clubs, and Bars.

“At the moment, we are giving importance to the mask-wearing campaign. Preparations are being made for the campaign to start within days. It was noticed that previously those going out without wearing masks were taken action upon. We will issue that letter as a reminder, and make people follow that order. We had a committee meeting yesterday.

A Yangon Regional Level Committee meeting regarding COVID-19 was held. In that meeting we coordinated to take action on the opening of KTV's, Night Clubs, and Bars, as directed. We are doing what is needed to take action,” said  Naing Ngan Lin.

On 15 Aug, the Committee for the COVID-19 Control and Emergency Response issued and sent directives to the Yangon Region Development Department, the Yangon Region Directorate of Hotel and Tourism and all District Administrative Departments.

In that directive, Bars, Night Clubs and KTVs in hotels and/or other separate places in Nay Pyi Taw Council, Regions and States, are places where COVID-19 virus can easily spread. The directive bans the opening of Bars, Night Clubs, and KTVs in hotels and other separate places in Nay Pyi Taw as well as other Regions, and States should be strictly implemented. Those who do not comply will be prosecuted as per prevailing laws.

According to decisions made at the National Level Central Committee for Prevention, Control and the cure of COVID-19 on 8 Aug, it was noticed that bars attached to restaurants and other separate places in Yangon, Mandalay and other towns are still in operation. The order to close down the restaurant in its entirety, should they fail to follow the above directive as per letter dated 14 Aug from the COVID-19 National Level Central Committee, was also enacted.
