Twenty six districts across Myanmar will carry out Covid-19 tests with the use of GeneXpert machines, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports.
In its effort to increase Covid-19 testing in both quantity and quality, the ministry has arranged tests at the National Health Laboratory (Yangon) as well as at the Department of Medical Research (Yangon) and public health laboratories in Mandalay and Mawlamyine. Moreover, Covid-19 tests will be carried out at more public health laboratories in Lashio and Taunggyi.
Now, plans are underway to do tests at district level hospitals across the country with the use of GeneXpert machines.
Currently, around 2,000 Covid-19 samples are tested daily at the abovementioned health facilities as well as No (1) Defence Services Hospital.
The National Health Laboratory (Yangon) and the Department of Medical Research carry out most samples daily with the use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
The Union Minister for Health and Sports expressed his thanks to all stakeholders for participating in Covid-19 preventive, control and treatment measures.
The National Central Committee for Covid-19 Prevention, Control and Treatment issued a statement on June 10 warning that legal actions will be taken against any foreigner entering the country through illegal routes and those who accept them.
