Myanmar unlikely to see large outbreak of Covid-19: Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health and Sports issued a statement on April 26 saying that Myanmar could not see a large outbreak of Covid-19 if effective and systematic preventive and control measures continue.

It is clear that such measures should not be reduced at all due to the fact that there are 42,671 people in 7,020 places whose movements are being restricted. It can be assumed that the country could not see a large outbreak if such measures continue, the statement says.

The US has over 860,000 million virus-infected people and 44,000 deaths while Spain has over 200,000 infected people and about 22,000 deaths. To prevent mass infections and deaths, Myanmar needs to maintain the ongoing measures and it is important for every citizen to follow the guidelines on the disease prevention issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports, the statement points out.

Accepting the fact that infection rate can increase at any time, anyone can be infected and infection might be inherent without showing symptoms, people are urged to follow the guidelines such as staying at home, social distancing, avoiding large gatherings and wearing face masks if something arises for them to go outside. Moreover, those living in restricted places are also urged to follow the dos and don’ts prescribed by the Ministry of Health and Sports.
