COVID-19 Treatment Centre (Phaunggyi) has prepared four ICUs and about 500 beds in the first stage, the Ministry of Health and Sports reported.

Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association (MCEA) prepared ICUs in the compound of the Central Institute of Civil Service (Lower Myanmar) in Phaunggyi Village, Hlegu Township, Yangon Region, to receive COVID-19 patients.

Under the leadership of the Yangon Region government, MCEA and Private Hospitals Association started efforts on March 31 to open the treatment center by making all necessary preparations such as ICU buildings, medical equipment and disinfection.

Currently, 37 patients can be housed in the four ICUs—10 each at three ICUs and seven at one ICU. Private hospitals have so far donated over 400 beds for the treatment centre.

In the first stage, the centre will keep about 500 beds ready. There will be 20 beds at the ICUs, 240 beds in high dependency unit and 240 beds for patients. In the second stage, there will be 40 beds at ICUs, 480 beds in high dependency unit and 480 beds for patients totalling  1,000 beds. The number of beds will reach 2,000 in the third stage.

Meals and accommodation will be prepared for over 100 medical professionals including health staff.
