The fifth COVID-19 patient from Mingalar Taungnyunt Township, Yangon Region, who was also suffering from nose cancer, died at Waibargi Hospital at 7.25 am on March 31, region MP Hla Htay for the township constituency No (1) confirmed. 

He said whether the man died of COVID-19 or cancer is still under investigation. 

“It’s true that patient No.5 has died at Waibargi Hospital. We don’t know why he died. It’s still under scrutiny,” the MP said. 

The 69-year-old man living in Mingalar Taungnyunt Township stayed in Australia for about a month for his nose cancer treatment. Before returning to Myanmar on March 14, he also spent four days in Singapore.

He started suffering from fever, coughing and sore throat on March 25.

He then was kept at ICU of Yangon General Hospital and lab tests showed that the man tested positive.

A 45-year-old man who had closely contacted the fifth COVID-19 patient tested positive for COVID-19. Currently, he is receiving treatment at Waibargi Hospital.
