Yangon—Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on 30 March, calling on Myanmar nationals to enter the country via border gates, only after 15 April due to the preparations for quarantine facilities.

On 23 March, a 44-year-old Myanmar national who returned from Thailand via Myawady border gate, tested positive for COVID-19. Under this circumstance, there is a high possibility for the pandemic to spread between the mass returnees and locals, the statement says.

The ministry will no longer allow Myanmar returnees to directly return to their hometowns. The 14-day quarantine will be mandatory for all returnees.

Most of the returnees from Thailand are migrant workers.
