The news that persons under investigation (PUI) of COVID-19 would be sent to a school in Htaukkyant, Mingalardon Township, Yangon, sparked the formation of a large crowd of local residents. 

An unidentified local said the nearby residents came to show their objection after authorities sent a letter to No.36 Primary School in Htaukkyant for housing PUIs. 

“The school was dark. But today, it is illuminated. We know that the letter was given to the school watchman. We cannot accept it because our children are also playing there, the local said. 

Lower House MP Aung Hlaing Win from Mingalardon Township said crowds formed due to rumours, adding that PUIs would not be kept if local people cannot accept. 

“It’s just a rumour. It's a misunderstanding. Today, I heard that 52 people arrived in Pale. PUIs are placed in the monasteries that can accept. There is no forcible action. We do this if monks accept willingly,” the MP said. 

The deputy education officer of Mingalardon Township came to the scene saying that the place would not be used if the people cannot accept.
