National Health Laboratory (Yangon) gives results from patients under investigation or suspicion of COVID-19 with six hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports.

NHL has received lab equipment from Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Science of Thailand and the National Center for Global Health and Medicine and Juntendo University of Japan. After parallel testing between NHL and the World Health Organization’s reference laboratory, lab results are found to be the same.

Japan International Cooperation Agency handed over the first batch of lab equipment worth 400,000 yen to NHL in order to take COVID-19 response measures.

On February 28, WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak as very high level across the world when the virus spread to over 50 countries.

In Myanmar, preventive and control measures are being taken with momentum such as keeping intensive care units, separate wards and necessary medicine and medical equipment ready at central level hospitals and region/state hospitals.
