AA kills a villager from Baungtote Village in Rakhine: army

A villager from Baungtote Village in Rakhine State was stabbed and beaten to death by members of Arakan Army (AA) on February 18, said Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun from Tatmadaw True News Information Team.

Baungtote Village is located beside of Yangon-Sittwe road and the murder took place on the night of February 18.

“Two youths are surfing the internet on their mobile phones and four AA members arrived on riding motorcycles. The AA members accused the two youths as informers of the army. They arrested them and one of the two youths escaped,” said Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun.

The one who escaped is 17-year old and he told them about it to the villagers. The villagers searched for the youth, who was detained by the AA members, and they found his body the next morning, he said.

“He had wounds in his neck, temple and right chest,” he said.

Head of Mrauk-U Township police force came to the scene about 8 am and there were tensions between two groups, he added.

Police came to the place where the tension occurred and took control of the situation, said an unnamed local.
