The Ministry of Health and Sports has warned that if private hospitals and clinics receive any coronavirus suspected patients, they will have to be transferred to the public hospitals that have been designated by the government.
Public members are also urged to inform relevant township health departments about any suspected cases. There will be 24-hour hotlines for such information.
"Despite no confirmed 2019 novel coronavirus cases, it can be infected through coughing and sneezing. The virus can directly be infected through respiratory route. It can also be infected through hand touching. Most deaths occur among those suffering from diabetes, hypertension or heart disease. But there is no cause to fear if they take good care of their health," said Dr Khin Khin Gyi, deputy director of Central Infectious Disease Control Centre under the Public Health Department.
Travellers from the affected regions were not found to have symptoms when they entered Myanmar, but notes have taken of their addresses and hotels they will be staying at. If there is any suspected case, the places they live will have to inform the Public Health Department through the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
Special wards are kept ready at Waibagi Hospital in Yangon and 1,000-bed hospitals in Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw.
According to figures from World Health Organization available till the morning of January 30, there are 6,065 lab confirmed cases across the globe, and 5,997 of them are in China. The total number included eight cases in Hong Kong, seven in Maco and eight in Taiwan. There are also 9,239 suspected cases in China. Of the confirmed cases, 976 are in serious condition. The virus has killed 106 people. Coronavirus cases are also found in other 15 countries including ASEAN countries such as Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia.
