World Patient Safety Day was celebrated at People's Hospital (500-bed) in Bago on September 20.

World Patient Safety Day is annually celebrated across the world on September 17.

The Bago event was held on September 20 because heads of the hospital were away on duty. It was attended by the Bago Region minister for social affairs, hospital heads, specialists and hospital staff.

"The main aim of celebrating the event is to make patients safe and sound. To err is human. How can we do to avoid or reduce mistakes? For the safety of patients, hospital must be safe first. Hospital staffers need to be safe. This is not enough. Only if surrounding areas, donors, partner organizations, government departments, patients and visitors are all safe and sound, will we be able to ensure patient safety. This is why we hold this event today. We will have reform plans. If it is successful, we will try to do this at other hospitals in Bago Region and then others across the country," said medical superintendent Dr Yan Naing Maung.
