Peace Commission sent a notification letter to northern allies on September 9 to meet in Kengtung, eastern Shan State to discuss about military affairs mainly and the exact venue will be announced in public before the date of the meeting, said San Aung from Peace-talk Creation Group (PCG).
The National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) and four ethnic groups from northern allies met at Kengtung on August 31 and they agreed to meet again on September 16 and 17. They also agreed to negotiate the venue to hold the meeting.
Kachin Independence Army (KIA), Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and Arakan Army (AA) from northern allies are negotiating with government representatives to sign bilateral agreement and the northern allies requested the army to participate in the peace talk to discuss military affairs during the meeting with the NRPC held on August 31.
The government proposed to hold the meeting in Kengtung for the convenience of the army delegation.
“The exact venue will be publicly announced on around September 14 or 15,” he said.
“Senior representatives from ethnic armed groups will be attended but no government officials who can make decisions, is not included in the government delegation,” said San Aung.
The letter said the government will assure the security and safety of the representatives of the northern allies. It also said “The commission wishes the KIA, TNLA, MNDAA and AA are included in the peace journey together to hold the meeting successfully”.
