The headmaster of Kyaung Village Basic Education High School in Ye Township has reportedly been abducted by an armed group and has lost contact with his family, according to family members and close associates.

At around 3:30 p.m. on January 3, the 58-year-old headmaster, U Thura Htun, was traveling by motorcycle from Kyaung Village in Ye Township to Mudon Town when he was stopped between Leinmaw Chan Village and Aung Thabye Village. Local sources said that an armed group of about 20 members, believed to be a PDF group, forced him to stop, threatened him, and took him away.

U Thura Htun was returning from Kyaung Village to his home in Ward (3), Mudon Town, on the afternoon of January 3. When he failed to arrive home by evening, the family informed the relevant authorities. As of the morning of today (January 7), there has still been no contact, a close family associate said.

The source added, “We only learned that the headmaster had been abducted after seeing online posts claiming he was being held by a group calling itself a revolutionary armed organization. However, we still do not know which group is responsible. As of this morning, January 7, the family has had no contact with him. His life is believed to be in danger.”

According to local sources, armed groups identifying themselves as revolutionary organizations have frequently targeted teachers and education staff for threats and abductions along the Thanbyuzayat–Ye road in Mon State.

Previously, on the morning of August 14, 2025, four female teachers from Ye Township were abducted near Wehkhami Village in Thanbyuzayat Township along the Thanbyuzayat–Ye road by a group calling itself the Mon State Revolutionary Force. According to statements released on the group’s social media pages, the teachers were forced to sign pledges not to participate in elections and were released on August 16.
