Yangon Region minister for economy U Aung Than Oo dismissed from duty

The State Administration Council (SAC) announced the dismissal of U Aung Than Oo, Minister of Economy for Yangon Region by Order No. 41/2022 on June 13.

According to the statement, the Minister of Economy, Aung Than Oo, was suspended from his post on June 10 in accordance with Article 419 of the Constitution.

SAC spokesman Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun told the media on March 24 that the two were not being detained and they were being interrogated despite reports that U Aung Than Oo and Yangon Mayor Bo Htay were arrested and detained on March 23.

Later, Yangon Mayor Bo Htay was seen returning to work, but without hearing any information from U Aung Than Oo and the SAC announced his dismissal.

U Aung Than Oo and Yangon Mayor Bo Htay were reportedly interrogated for allegedly accepting the apply for vacant land, but the SAC did not confirm this separately.

Prior to his appointment as regional minister, U Aung Than Oo was the Vice-Chairman of the Myanmar Rice Federation and a member of the Union Solidarity and Development Party. 2015 Thanlyin Township H contested the 2010, 2015 and 2020 general elections and won the election in 2010 general election, but lost to the NLD in the 2015 and 2020 general elections.

U Hla Soe, the Yangon Region chief minister, was allowed to retire on January 31, but he has reportedly been arrested in connection with a land dispute. Yangon Region Secretary U Soe Soe Zaw was arrested in May. The SAC said that U Soe Soe Zaw was being interrogated on business matters.
