Yangon - The Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) has announced that temporary electricity load management measures are being implemented following an emergency shutdown of the Yadana offshore natural gas platform.
According to YESC, the emergency shutdown occurred at around 9:30 am. on July 1, disrupting the supply of natural gas to several power plants serving the Yangon Region.
As a result, operations at the Ahlone Toyo Thai GTG Units 1 and 2, the 110 MW Steam Turbine Generator (STG), the Thaketa U-Energy GTGI/STG plant (106 MW), and the Thaketa Max Power plant (33 MW) were suspended.
The shutdown has reduced the total electricity generation supplied to the national grid by approximately 249 megawatts (MW).
YESC said that while maintenance and restoration work is underway, residents across townships in Yangon Region may experience temporary electricity load management and power supply adjustments until normal operations resume.
