Untimely rain, lightning strikes and hails may occur in the regions and states, due to the speed of the whirlwind moving from the west, announced the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

According to the announcement, within 48 hours from the afternoon of January 25, rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread in upper Sagaing Region, Kachin and Chin states, scattered in lower Sagaing, Mandalay, and Tanintharyi regions and Shan State and isolated rainfalls in the remaining regions and states due to the speed of the whirlwinds moving from the west and the meeting of warm air from the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal and cold air moving from the high pressure area on the Chinese mainland.

Meteorological phenomena such as untimely rains, accompanied by heavy rainfalls, thunder and lightning strikes and hail are likely to occur, so the DMH advised the public to take precautions in advance.

During the third ten-day week of January, night temperature will be 1.5°C below normal of January average temperatures in upper Sagaing Region and Kachin, northern Shan, and Chin states, announced the DMH on January 21.

Weather will be partly cloudy over the Andaman Sea and South Bay of Bengal and a few cloud elsewhere over Bay of Bengal.

Rain or thundershowers will be below normal in Nay Pyi Taw, lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady regions and northern and southern Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayah states and about normal in upper Sagaing, and Taninthayi regions and Kachin, eastern Shan, Kayin, and Mon states.

Rainy days are expected about 1 to 2 days in upper Sagaing, Taninthayi regions and Kachin, southern and eastern Shan, Kayah, Kayin, Mon states and partly cloudy in Nay Pyi Taw, lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady regions and northern Shan, Chin, Rakhine states.
