The opening ceremony of the new 110-bed capacity ward, which was built and donated by AW Foundation at a cost of US$ 3.1 million and six billion kyats, was held on November 3 at the specialist hospital (Wai Bar Gi) on Dhamma Thukha Road, North Oakkalapa Township, Yangon Region.
The new ward was opened to commemorate the 75th Diamond Jubilee Independence Day. The ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the State Administration Council, Lt. Gen. Aung Lin Dwe, Union Minister for Construction, Union Minister for Health, Chief Minister for Yangon Region, Commander of Yangon Region Command, and Director General of Department of Medical Services.
"Although Wai Bar Gi Specialist Hospital is a 200-bed hospital that mainly provides treatment for infectious diseases such as HIV, Tuberculosis, SARS, H1N1 disease, suspected Ebola patients and Covid-19 patients, the need for a high-level facility with special systems to prevent infection for fast-spreading diseases led to the donor AW Foundation's offer to build such a facility. It was built with the goal of continuing to serve as a Center of Excellence for the prevention and control of infectious diseases. We will be able to provide training for the production of human resources," said Professor Dr. Thak Khaing Win, Union Minister for Health.
The new 110-bed capacity ward was built and donated by the AW Foundation at a cost of US$ 3.1 million and 6 billion kyats. It has 110 beds, 12 intensive care beds, 25 HDU beds that can provide oxygen monitoring and 73 private patient beds equipped with air pressure systems to prevent infection in addition to an oxygen plant, a sewage treatment, an 8 KVA generator and an 800 KVA transformer.
"Based on the AW Foundation's vision for a better future together with the people, on January 5, 2021, we were able to start implementing the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction and donation of the new advanced treatment facility at Wai Bar Gi Hospital. The new advanced treatment facility can be used as an important public health infrastructure to deal with infectious diseases and potential epidemics in the future. In this new advanced treatment facility, ICU and HDU rooms, private patient rooms, ventilation control system, oxygen plant, air treatment plant, a sound-proof generator for backup use for the electricity sector and solar panels for renewable energy that do not harm the environment have been systematically installed on the roof of the hospital," said an official from the AW Foundation.
