News had spread of some members of United Wa State Army (UWSA) that had arrested two drivers after torching their backhoes.

The drivers and vehicles were reportedly owned by a private construction company near Namttain Creek, Kyunlon-Chinshwehaw road, Kyunlon Township, northern Shan State in the evening of September 24th.

Military spokesperson Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun yesterday confirmed the news but did not specify which organizations had committed the deed.

“Two vehicles were burnt down in Chinshwehaw on September 24th. The vehicles were owned by Private Construction Company which worked at the Kyunlon-Chinshwehaw road. And then, two drivers were arrested,” said Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun.

Nyi Yan, in-charge of Lashio Liaison Office also said that he cannot confirm but had said that the UWSA had frequently warned the company not to pile soil at the scene of the incident.

“As the company piled the soil near the creek, bridge and road, landslide took place and road and bridge were damaged. So, we frequently warned against stockpile of soil since many years ago. We also informed some relevant departments about the stockpile of soil. But I do not know about the arrest of two drivers and torching. Surely, the torching of vehicles wasn’t concerned with the violence took place in northern Shan State,” said Nyi Yan.

Some Social Media described the photos on September 24th which showed that about four members from UWSA burning down two vehicles from private construction company which had piled the soil on the embankment of Namttain creek and arrested two drivers after.
