In collecting advance ballots in 4th ward, Pathein township resident U Htun Myint allegedly used a fake rubber stamp without a UEC logo.

He was prosecuted under section 59 (c) of Election Law, according to the Pathein Township Election Subcommission.

While going around ward (4) collecting advance ballots on 31st Oct, U Htun Myint,  who was casting the vote in lieu of his unwell relative, was found to have used a fake rubber stamp. This person was a member of USDP, and a ballot booth representative.

Pathein Township Election Subcommission president, said "the lady incharge of the ballot booth gave out the ballot slip. He stamped and voted but the stamp he used was not the stamp given by us, but one he had with him. Because of that the ballot was considered invalid and could not be put into the ballot box. It was wrong of him to have that rubber stamp. He was booked for action the other day at about 3.30 pm at the Pathein Police Station under section 59 (c) of the Election Law."

It was filed by the ward (4) Election Commission Head and deputy head with case No. 484/2020, and the fake rubber stamp was taken away by the station. U Htun Myint was released on bail.

It was learnt from Pathein Township Election Commission that under section 59 (c) of the Election Law, U Htun Myint can be sentenced to prison for a period not exceeding a year, or a fine of an amount not more than K100 000  or both punishments for such an act.
