According to information from political parties, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) has secured the highest number of votes and is leading in the State Hluttaw constituency of Chaungzon Township as well as in the remaining four townships included in Phase (1) of the election in Mon State.

The townships in Mon State that took part in Phase (1) of the election were Kyaikto, Kyaikmaraw, Chaungzon, Mawlamyine, and Thaton.

The current Chief Minister of Mon State, U Aung Kyi Thein, contested as a candidate in the Chaungzon Township State Hluttaw constituency under the first-past-the-post system. According to an official from the Mon Unity Party (MUP), as of the evening of December 28, the MUP candidate U Nai Htun Oo was leading in the Chaungzon State Hluttaw constituency by around 500 votes. However, by the morning of December 29, U Aung Kyi Thein had regained the lead with a margin of more than 500 votes.

A Mon Unity Party official also said, “In Chaungzon Township, our party’s candidates are leading by more than 2,000 votes in the Pyithu Hluttaw constituency and by more than 1,500 votes in the Amyotha Hluttaw constituency.”

As Chaungzon Township falls under Mon State National Constituency No. (4), the Mon Unity Party can be regarded as having secured final victories in both the Pyithu Hluttaw and Amyotha Hluttaw seats for Chaungzon Township.

In addition, it is reported that in the Pa-O ethnic affairs constituency in Mon State, the candidate from the Pa-O National Organization has taken a clear lead with more than 2,000 votes.

A USDP official said, “In the ethnic affairs constituencies, based on votes from the townships that participated in Phase (1) of the multiparty democratic general election, our USDP candidate is leading in the Bamar ethnic affairs constituency. In the Pa-O ethnic affairs constituency, the Pa-O National Organization candidate is leading with more than 2,000 votes. In the Karen ethnic affairs constituency, the vote results are very close. Clear and final results will only be known after Phase (2) of the multiparty democratic general election.”

Phase (2) of the election is scheduled to be held on January 11, 2026, during which voting will take place in Ye, Thanbyuzayat, Mudon, Paung, and Bilin townships in Mon State.
