Union minister requests Australian priority for COVID-19 vaccines

In his meeting with the Australian ambassador to Myanmar Ms Andrea Faulkner, the Union Minister for the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Thaung Tun, requested Australia to give priority to Myanmar in providing COVID-19 vaccines.     

In the Video Conferencing they had on 30 Sept. the union minister, U Thaung Htun and the ambassador discussed the social, economic, and health effects of COVID-19 on Myanmar. They also discussed efforts being made by both countries for development and future efforts to work together. 

The union minister also talked about the latest stage of CERP, MERRP, the middle and long term development plan  to re-establish the economy. The minister also mentioned how the committee to purchase medicines and medical accessories to control, prevent and treat COVID-19 disease is co-ordinating with organizations like UNOPS.     

Ms Faulkner said that among what is being done to rectify economic enterprises affected by COVID-19, the right of everyone to use the COVID-19 vaccine is also to be addressed. She further said that Australia through COVAX facility is giving all necessary help, especially for people in the less developed countries to obtain vaccines, and how Australia is co-ordinating with ASEAN countries, including Myanmar, to contribute A$ 80 million to help re-establish their economic enterprises.
