A UNHCR convoy of trucks carrying personal protective equipment for Covid-19 prevention and non-food items have arrived in the town of Mindat, Chin State, UNHCR Myanmar reported.

According to its statement, starting July 20 and throughout the rest of the week, UNHCR will be distributing non-food items including tarpaulins, mosquito nets, sleeping mats, blankets, kitchen sets, solar lamps and personal protective equipment for COVID-19 prevention, among other items.

Up to 5,000 people (1,000 households) are expected to benefit from the much-needed assistance.

In the statement, UNHCR stressed that its work is entirely humanitarian, impartial and focused on the people who need humanitarian assistance.

The distributions will be carried out by UNHCR staff and trusted partners who will hand over the items to individuals and communities in need of assistance.

In so doing, UNHCR will meet with representatives of community and religious groups to better understand their needs and concerns. It remains committed to providing critical humanitarian assistance to those in need in Chin State and elsewhere in the country, the statement said.
