Two Myanmar citizens coming back from a farm in Phop Phra district, Thai-Myanmar border were killed by lightning strike on April 25.

A 21 years old man and his 20 years old sister were coming back from the farm by a motorcycle after gathering vegetables. They were struck by lightning as it was raining heavily.

“There is intense heat wave during these days in Thailand. Meteorology department of Thailand has also announced about it. This kind of incident is very rare but we have to be cautious. It happened in the Phop Phra district. It is a season changing from summer to monsoon. There may be heat wave and at the same time storm can be broke out. During this time, lightning may strike and natural disasters may happen at any time as electricity discharges from lightning. If one needs to go passing through farm lands or lamp-posts, one needs to avoid these and use routes via houses or huts,” said U Moegyoe, chairman of Joint Action Committee for Burmese Affairs (JACBA).

The two siblings were working in a farm and the remains were sent to the hospital by Phop Phra social associations. Authority will examine the case in accordance with the law, it said.
