Two killed after landslide in Hpakant

Two men were killed and one was injured at the foot after a landslide at a jade mining site near Mana village, Seikmu village tract, Hpakant in Kachin State according to locals.

“The husband and nephew of a school teacher were killed in the landslide. They all are living in Mamon. The injured one is also her relative. All are about 30 years of age. The school teacher was admitted to hospital as her due date is near. The dead bodies were sent to Myitkyina hospital,” said a villager of Mamon.

As the two jade mining sites were closely situated, dirt and rubble ripped down the mining site when the base was collapsed. There were altogether five men and two were killed according to an eyewitness.

On December 22, 2021, a landslide in Sein Sein jade mining site, in Lone Khin village tract, Hpakant killed 6 men and another 3 were missing.

On December 19, 2021, a landslide in the old jade mining site in Nay Min Gabar between Yayawkha and Mana villages, near Sai Jarbon village caused 6 people missing and only 3 dead bodies were recovered.

Jade mining were prevented in Hpakant Region at present but illegal jade mining are still carried out at night.
