As the upgrading of Yangon-Toungoo railroad section, phase-1 of Yangon-Mandalay railway improvement project, starts on October 1, train schedules will be changed.

Schedules of No (1) up and No (2) down postal trains running between Yangon and Mandalay, and No (9) up and No (10) down postal trains running between Yangon and Thazi will be cancelled during the project period. But other up and down Yangon-Mandalay train schedules will remain.

No (7) up train plying between Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw will be operated on Sundays and No (8) down Nay Pyi Taw-Yangon train on Fridays. Schedules of No (31) up and No (32) down trains will be cancelled.

Because of those train schedule changes, local train schedules in Yangon such as Yangon-Oakposu, Yangon-East University, Yangon-Ywathagyi and Yangon-Toegyaunggalay will also be changed. Those schedule changes will be announced at respective railway stations.

During the project phase-1 period, the two-way system will be changed into one-way system temporarily.

In the 166-mile Yangon-Toungoo railway improvement project period, travelling time between Yangon and Mandalay will be longer. The original operation time is about 14 hours. But it will extend to about 16 hours and 30 minutes during the project period. Local trains with about 15 hours of running time will take about 18 hours now.
