Traffic accident on Yangon-Mandalay Expressway kills three people including former Lethwei champion Shwe Du Wun

A passenger bus crashed and overturned near the mile post No.167 on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway, killing three people including former Lethwei champion Shwe Du Wun and injuring 25, sources said.

Regarding the situation of the incident, an official from the highway fire services department who went to the scene to help said, "There were 31 people on the bus. Three men died and 15 men and ten women were injured. The other three were not injured. The accident happened when the driver fell asleep and could not control the bus. Most of the injured people are in non-life-threatening conditions".

Regarding the death of former Lethwei champion Shwe Du Wun, an official from the charity association said, "We don't know who it is because the face is also badly damaged. It is known that he is Shwe Du Wun, but it has not been immediately confirmed. Now we know. Of course, it is confirmed that he is Shwe Du Wun. His family followed, and his body was kept at the Swa Hospital. Among the other injured people, ten were sent to Nay Pyi Taw Hospital and three were sent to Myawady. The remaining two were sent to Kawkareik".

The real name of former Myanmar Lethwei champion Shwe Du Wun, who died in the crash, is Saw Thintan and was reported to be 53 years old at the time of his death.

The incident happened on March 4 at around 5:30 am on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway under the authority of the Thagara Expressway Police Station. It is reported that the white and red passenger bus driven by Khun Nyi Nyi Paing loses control and crashed guardrails in the middle of the road.

According to the report of the traffic accident, a joint team including Thagara Expressway Police Inspector Thet Naing Soe and his team, Thagara Expressway fire services department and Nay Pyi Taw Expressway initial search and rescue team, and Thagara Expressway repair and maintenance team, went to the scene to inspect the accident.  Due to the accident, three people including the driver 20 were not injured but Ko Ye Htwe aka Farooq, Ko Zaw Win Htain and an unknown man (whose name and address is under investigation) died at the scene. A total of 25 people: 15 men and 10 women received various injuries and received medical treatment at nearby hospitals.

The front windshield of the bus was broken and the left side of the vehicle was damaged. Swa Town (Myanmar Social Relief Association), Save The Tree Charity from Toungoo and a local social assistance association went to the scene to help, and the bodies of the three people were taken to the Swa Town Public Hospital and 25 injured people were sent to a nearby hospital.

Regarding the accident, Sub-inspector Naing Lin Tun filed a complaint against the driver for driving the vehicle recklessly and injuring and killing people under Section 337/338/304 (a) of the Penal Code at Thagara Expressway Police Station.
