MANDALAY- Traditional farm houses made of teak in arid region have been selected for the World Monuments Watch list (WMW)-2020, according to sources.

The World Monuments Fund (WMF) based in New York, the United State, is a leading independent organization devoted to saving the world’s treasured places. Now, the WMF chooses the traditional teak farmhouses in Myanmar’s arid zone among the 25 projects around the world.

 “I had studied the selected traditional teak farmhouses and made project work. With the aim to do project work, I observed traditional teak farmhouses in Mandalay and Sagaing Region. According to my research, there were totaling 40 traditional teak farm houses. However, 12 houses were nominated in the World Monuments Watch List. So, I am going to carry out the research and record activities together with the experts and students under the sponsorship of the WMF,” said Professor Dr Zar Chi Minn (Architecture) from Mandalay Technological University.

Dr Zar Chi Minn also said that the teak farmhouses were selected from among 250 structures submitted from all over the world.

The research works will be lasted about 2 years and the farmhouses near the schools and downtown will be chosen for the research works.

Other sites on the 2020 World Monuments Watch list include Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and structures in Togo, Chile, Canada, Egypt, Georgia, the UK and the US.
