Third Term of Pyithu Hluttaw to Hold First Regular Session on March 16

The first day of the first regular session of the third term of the Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) will be held on March 16, during which the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be elected, according to reports.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 16. During the opening session, a presiding chairperson will first be appointed, followed by the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw.

At the start of the session, procedures will include the appointment of the presiding chairperson, the taking of the oath and signing of the oath record by the chairperson, a welcoming speech by the chairperson, and an announcement declaring the opening of the Pyithu Hluttaw session.

Afterward, members of parliament will take the oath and sign the oath records. Requests for leave from members unable to attend the meeting will also be presented and decided upon by the parliament, before the agenda for the first day is announced.

The election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will then take place. Both will take the oath before the presiding chairperson and sign the oath records, after which the chairperson will formally hand over responsibilities to the newly elected Speaker.

Finally, the Speaker will deliver a welcoming address and announce the adjournment of the first day of the first regular session of the third term of the Pyithu Hluttaw, as well as the date and time for the second day of the meeting.
