“The Lachid people celebrate Manaw festivals for years ago as they believe they can promote the health of their families, economy and social affairs. Since 2018, we’ve been constructing the buildings. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, we held this celebration for the first time this year. We estimated that Lachid ethnic people’s population in the entire Myanmar is only 200,000 and so holding this kind of ceremony annually is impossible. We are glad to see that our literature, language and culture are being preserved,” said Chairman of the committee U Zome Boam.
Lachid ethnic people belong to the ethnic Kachin group such as Jeinphaw, Lawwaw, Lesu, Rawan, Lachid and Zaikwar. Lawwaw, Lesu, Rawan, Lachid owned manaw compound and Manaw house.
