Thaung Tun attends ASEAN Economic Community and regional conflict settlement mechanism

The 35th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits have started in Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand  and the 18th ASEAN Economic Community Council Meeting was held on October 18, attended by Union Minister Thaung Tun of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations.

Those present on the occasion together with Union Minister Thaung Tun  were economic ministers from ASEAN member countries.

Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Jurin Laksanavisit who is alternate chairmanship of ASEAN discussed objectives of cooperative measures in ASEAN regional economic community and future tasks.

The AEC Council chaired the building and implementation of the AEC Blueprint 2025. The blueprint consists of five interrelated and mutually reinforcing characteristics, namely: a highly integrated and cohesive economy; a competitive, innovative, and dynamic ASEAN; enhanced connectivity and sectoral cooperation; a resilient, inclusive, people-oriented, and people-centred ASEAN; and a global ASEAN.

Union Minister Thaung Tun signed a protocol for an enhanced dispute settlement mechanism together with ASEAN economic ministers. ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings is beginning as of October 31. The meeting of the leaders of ASEAN countries that will focus on 13 important priorities will be held on November 2.

The 13 priorities to be discussed are U.S –China trade war, challenges and changes to environment, fourth industrial revolution, promotion of digital economy, and artificial intelligence. The topics that were formerly approved for economic implementation during ASEAN Summit and Related Summits will continue discussions.
