The regional government will pick ten best historic buildings in Yangon in order to attract tourists, said Naw Pan Thinzar Myo, Yangon Region Kayin Ethnic Affairs Minister and chair of Yangon Region Tourism Working Committee.

The committee will select ten out of 200 historic buildings in Yangon.

“Now Bagan is listed on the UNESCO. Thanks to it, Bagan can attract many visitors. Yangon has a few number of pagodas like Shwedagon and Botahtaung Pagodas. But there are many historic buildings in Yangon, compared to those in the South East Asia. These historic buildings have valuable architectural designs. In cooperation with the Yangon Heritage Trust, the committee will explore ten famous spots where the tourists can take photos,” she added.

In every country, the tourists aged between 25 and 34 usually spend more on trips. They upload their photos taken at the famous spots on the social media. The government should pay more attention to the digital marketing by hiring the experts in order to enable the spread of these photos. Money spent by the local tourism sector on digital marketing, tourism promotion and marketing are relatively low. Myanmar receives around 1.3 million tourist arrivals every year. This sector generates 1.3 billion US dollars when a tourist spends 1000 US dollars on average. The amounts spent on tourism promotion is less than one per cent.
