Tatmadaw and eight signatories to Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) yesterday reached an agreement to swiftly call the Joint Implementation Coordination Meeting (JICM), at a meeting between Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and eight NCA signatories in Nay Pyi Taw, said Col Khun Okkar, Patron of the PaO National Liberation Organisation (PNLO).

The meeting was attended by the delegates from eight NCA signatories, apart from the Karen National Union (KNU) and the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS).

“We collectively went to the meeting as usual. The KNU went back after meeting with the military chief separately citing that it has separate works. Our meeting generally focused on the fact that the peace process will go forwards according to the NCA path.  Our eight NCA signatories are  synonymous with Tatmadaw, he added.

He heard that the delegates from Tatmadaw went to other countries to study the federal system. The meeting also focused on the ways of how to negotiate the federal system between Tatmadaw and the EAOs, he continued.

The meeting also aims to explain the fact that Tatmadaw has no intention to hamper the peace process at a time when Tatmadaw is making all-out efforts for the peace process, he added.

There remain few continued processes for calling the JICM. For instance, sending the delegates to the RCSS for the meeting and the KNU’s agreement over the calling of JICM. After the completion of these processes, the JICM is expected to be called without any difficulty, in November, he said.

On the morning of October 29, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received the delegation led by Khaing Soe Naing Aung, vice-chair of the NCA-S EAO, in Nay Pyi Taw, according to a statement by the Commander-in-Chief’s Office.
