Myanmar and Thailand have discussed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the electricity and energy sectors soon.

The discussions took place on the afternoon of August 6 between Myanmar's Union Minister for Electric Power and Energy U Ko Ko Lwin, who accompanied President U Min Aung Hlaing on his official visit to Thailand, and a Thai delegation led by Thailand's Energy Minister, Mr. Akanat Promphan.

During the meeting, the two energy ministers discussed the signing of the MoU on Myanmar-Thailand cooperation in the electricity and energy sectors, increasing Thai investment in Myanmar's natural gas projects, and strengthening and expanding Myanmar's electricity transmission and distribution network.

They also exchanged views on opportunities for greater Thai investment in Myanmar's promising natural gas projects, as well as measures to enhance and expand the country's power generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure.

In addition, Union Minister U Ko Ko Lwin briefed the Thai energy minister and his delegation on investment opportunities in Myanmar's electricity and energy sectors.

Union Minister U Ko Ko Lwin was accompanied by Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand U Zaw Zaw Soe, and the Thai Energy Minister and relevant officials were also present at the meeting.
