Southwest monsoon expected to arrive by early June

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) announced that the southwest monsoon may begin entering the nation between May 29 and June 3. 

Currently, the monsoon is moderate over the Andaman Sea and the South Bay of Bengal, and strong to vigorous over the East Central and Northeast Bay of Bengal. 

Rain or thundershowers are expected to be scattered in the Taninthayi Region and widespread in other regions and states, with isolated heavy falls likely in Upper Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway Regions, and Kachin, Shan, Chin, and Rakhine States. From June 22 to 28, widespread rain or thundershowers have been reported in Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady, and Taninthayi Regions, as well as Kachin, Southern Shan, Rakhine, Mon, and Kayin States. 

Additionally, Nay Pyi Taw, Upper Sagaing Region, and Northern and Eastern Shan States experienced widespread rain or thundershowers from June 15 to 21. Isolated heavy falls occurred in lower Sagaing, Mandalay, and Magway Regions from May 8 to 14.
