Yangon-The guitar once played by the late renowned songwriter Naing Myanmar has been entrusted to musician Naing Zaw for safekeeping. The guitar was the last one Naing Myanmar played before his death, and Naing Zaw has agreed to preserve it as a valuable memento.

Naing Zaw explained the significance of the guitar, saying, “When his wife expressed the wish to return to her homeland near the border between China and Shan State, they feared the journey might be too rough for the guitar. Given the situation, he wanted to entrust it to someone he trusted. So, he handed it to me for safekeeping.”

Naing Zaw added that he would ensure the guitar’s return to Naing Myanmar's family once the journey is complete, saying, “Once the family is safely back in their region, I will arrange to return the guitar to them. If there are others who genuinely appreciate Naing Myanmar's music and artistry and wish to own this guitar as a token of remembrance, they can contact me. I will facilitate the process, but only with proper permission from the family.”

Naing Myanmar, one of Myanmar’s most celebrated songwriters, passed away on the morning of February 7, 2025, from a heart attack at his residence in Thanlyin Township, Yangon. His funeral was held on February 9 at the Ye Way Cemetery in Yangon.

Naing Zaw, reflecting on the guitar, said, “This guitar holds immense sentimental value as it was the last one Naing Myanmar ever played, and I have kept it as a cherished memory of his legacy.”
