Out of the bridges built with public contributions in Nay Pyi Taw Pyinmana, Ngalaik creek-crossing bridge, the second largest in Myanmar, will be built at a cost of K2.5 billion.

"We have learned that of the bridges built with our public donations, it will be the second largest in the whole country. The deputy minister said the largest one is in Hpakant, Kachin State. The plan was initiated by the late U Soe Tint. We have been planning it after discussions. But due to difficulties, we have to start it now. The construction will take about one and a half years. As we have donors, our government is very grateful to them," said Myo Aung, chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council.

Soe Electric Foundation held a stake-driving ceremony for the construction of Ngalaik Bridge at a cost of around K2.5 billion on October 24.

"Today, we are trying to fulfill the desire of late U Soe Tint, chairman of Soe Electric Foundation. He expressed his desire to build a total of 85 bridges in April 2016. This four-lane bridge (Ngalaik) is 345 feet long and 62 feet wide," said Aung Myint Tun, secretary of the foundation.

He said Shwe Taung Company would take charge of the construction efforts.

The foundation has already sought coordination from Nay Pyi Taw Council, Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee and relevant departments for land use.

Located on the old Yangon-Mandalay highway, the existing Ngalaik Bridge has two lanes. The emergence of the new bridge would reduce traffic congestion, said Lower House MP Than Soe Naing from Pyinmana Township.
