Six people were killed and seven were injured when a vehicle returning from the Shwe Saran Pagoda Festival overturned in PyinOoLwin Township, Mandalay Region, according to the Theintithukha Social Assistance Association.

The vehicle overturned near Mi Thway Phoake Village at the toll gate in Duthawaddy Bridge on the Shwe Saran-Ye Ywar-Kyaukse Road, at the border of Singaing and Patheingyi townships on the evening of March 15.

The vehicle was from Moe Kyo Ywa Ma Village, PyinOoLwin Township. There were 13 people on board, three of whom died on the spot, two others died while being taken to hospital, and one died while receiving treatment at the hospital at around midnight.

"On the way back from Shwe Saran Pagoda Festival, the driver did not take the (Ohn Chaw) Mandalay-PyinOoLwin Road, but instead took the wrong turn towards Kyaukse Road, Duhthawaddy River Bridge, and the car reversed when the driver knew about taking the wrong road, causing a tragic accident," the association said.

The deceased were a man, three children, and two women. The deceased and injured were taken to the Singaing Township Public Hospital and Mandalay General Hospital, the association said.
