A shell fell and exploded in Ward-5 of Myitkyina, Kachin State, while an explosion was heard at No.503 Air Base in Myitkyina on the morning of September 24, local sources said.

A resident of Upper Mawphaung Ward said: 'I heard an explosion, but I didn't know where shootings took place. Then I found out weapons were fired into the air force base. One of the shells fell into Ward-5, and a house was reportedly hit. After that, an explosion was heard in the air force yard. No injuries were reported. People in the neighborhood were unsure, and firing came at a time when there were flashes of lightning."

In Kachin State, there are still widespread shootings between the military and the KIA (Kachin Independence Army) and PDF (People’s Defence Force), except in the areas of Mohnyin, Mogaung and Bhamo.

Military tension escalates notably along the route leading to Liza, where the headquarters of the KIA is located.
