Seven wounded in downtown Mrauk-U fighting

The fighting took place in downtown Mrauk-U Township, Rakhine State leaving seven wounded people and some houses were burnt yesterday at night.

 “Our house was shot in yesterday fighting. I didn’t dare to look at the outside and stay at the room. In the morning, I’m going to look outside. The fighting took place in the downtown,” said Khin Than, Chairperson of Ancient Archeological Conservation Organization.

“Some people were wounded in the Wante and Hsingyaseik wards. A house was burnt due to the fall of heavy weapon in Ywahongtaw village. Moreover, fire broke out in Baungdut ward. However, fire engines and emergency rescue teams didn’t dare to carry out their activities,” said Khin Than.

She added that plans were underway to record the Mrauk-U Township on the World Heritage List. The flesh fighting caused the damage of cultural heritages. She was very sorry to hear the injuries of innocent people. All Mrauk-U dwellers wanted to enjoy the peace.

“The people who have no weapons were shot. It was unacceptable act. They were shooting along the street. We crouched at home,” said Khin Than.

Due to fall of heavy weapons, a house was burnt and seven were wounded. Among the wounded people, inquires are being carried out aiming to know the address of a child and a woman.

Similarly, a house was fired in Ywahongtaw village due to fall of heavy weapon.

“Some people were wounded in their leg and foot. Mainly, shooting took place in Yangon-Sittwe road. We found that there had been heavy and light weapons shooting,” said the monk from Myo U Gaung Monastery in Mrauk-U Township.

Around 11:30pm, no one hear the gunfire in downtown Mrauk-U Township. But, people sometimes hear the gunfire in the outskirts of Mrauk-U.

The news spread out concerning the shooting saying that the government’s army set off in pursuit of the Arakan Army (AA). So, the fighting between army and AA took place in downtown of Mrauk-U Township.

Although The Daily Eleven tried to confirm the Mrauk-U fighting, they can’t approve the news until 1am of March 19th.
