Seven foreign nationals who had entered sites in and around Myawaddy, Kayin State, through illegal routes after passing through Thailand and other neighboring countries have been detained, according to authorities.

The group comprises three Philippine nationals, two Sri Lankan nationals, one Chinese national and one Indian national. Authorities are carrying out checks for their deportation and repatriation.

Myawaddy District Administration Committee Chairman and District Administrator U Ye Lin Maung and officials inspected the collection of personal information and records being conducted by relevant departmental teams to facilitate the speedy transfer of the foreign nationals to their respective countries.

Of the 1,344 foreign nationals remaining to be transferred, 640 have been prosecuted under Sections 3(1)/13(1) of Myanmar's immigration law and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. The remaining 704 foreign nationals are reportedly ready to be transferred to their respective countries and are being kept in custody.

Authorities said Myanmar is actively cooperating with neighboring and regional countries as well as international organizations to identify arrest and take action against foreign nationals involved in online scam center operations, including those allegedly directing such operations from behind the scenes.

Authorities are also coordinating with relevant countries to facilitate the speedy deportation and repatriation of foreign nationals who have been victim to various circumstances, including those who have been trafficked.
