Myanmar’s Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, said he held productive talks with the leaders of China, India, and Laos during his official trip to Beijing.

Speaking at the Myanmar Embassy in Beijing on September 2, he told embassy staff, military attachés, and students that Myanmar is strengthening relations with neighbouring countries and ASEAN partners. He explained that his visit came at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the SCO Summit 2025 Plus and the military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Anti-Fascist War.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stressed Myanmar’s path toward multi-party democracy, citing the 2010 elections and ongoing preparations for another vote in December. He said the 2024 nationwide census had been completed to support accurate voter lists and national development plans. He pledged elections would be fair, using the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM), and emphasized that educated candidates should serve in parliament.

On the economy, he acknowledged past policy failures but said his administration is working to boost domestic production, reduce reliance on imports, and increase exports. He highlighted the importance of education and skilled human resources for economic growth.

Calling on students abroad and all citizens to contribute, he said national development is a shared responsibility and urged everyone to work together for Myanmar’s progress.

The meeting was also attended by senior SSPC officials, ministers, Myanmar’s ambassador to China, military attachés, and Myanmar students.
