As there is insufficient budget, school uniforms will not be provided  to primary students starting from 2019-2020 academic year  according to Ko Lay Win,  Director General of Basic  Education Department.

The set price for a pair of school uniform is Ks.1400 but when inviting tenders, there were inconveniences because the proposed Ks.1400 cover only for sewing charges and  only low quality uniforms can get with that amount. Therefore, providing  school uniforms have stopped beginning from this year according to Ko Lay Win.

In place of providing school uniforms, six exercise books will be provided, he continued.

"With the proposed budget, it was found that, there are inconveniences when inviting tender. Majority of States and Regions are asking for more budget. If we are to increase budget, we have to give a large number of budget. As there is no other solutions,  we will provide six exercise books per student," said Ko Lay Win,  Director General of Basic  Education Department.

He continued that school uniforms provided previous years did not meet standard and there were errors in sizes of school uniforms.

In 2018-2019, students were provided with a pair of school uniform, school text books and  6 exercise books free of charge.

Beginning from this academic year, primary students will have school text books and  6 exercise books free of charge.

For middle and higher education students, a set of text books have been provided.

School enrollment Day will start from may 25 and school will be reopen in June 1.
