KALAY-As day temperature increased in Sagaing Region, school hours of Basic Education High Schools already have been changed, say sources.

“Before opening the schools, we instructed the teachers to change the school hours after discussing with the parents and teachers. Some ceilings are very lower and some schools have no ceilings. So, we urged the students to attend their classes in the morning after depending on the weather. The Sagaing Regional Education Department also issued the statement. We changed the school hours in the previous academic year,” said unidentified official from Kalay Township Education Department.

In the hot regions, there have been instructions to change the school hours starting from 7am to 12 noon instead of original school hours from 9am to 3:30 pm.

“We already distributed the above warning letters calling for change of school hours. In our region, the weather is cool. So, some schools regularly open original time” said Myo Win, Assistant Director from Kani District Education Office.

Due to the increase of day temperature in Sagaing Region, the camps avoiding from the heat had been opened in Monywa and Sarlingyi Townships.

At present, the education department instructed the schools to change the school hours in the hot regions aiming not to disturb the learning period of the students.

“In the previous, school hours had been changed due to the hot weather. But, this year is very hot comparing the previous. Although it was raining, the temperature doesn’t decrease. As the weather is very hot, not only students but also the parents got the heat stock. It is inconvenient for the health,” said one of the locals from Kalay Township.
