Around 1.3 million gallons of 92Ron and 95Ron octane, premium diesel and diesel are currently in stock and about 12 oil tankers will be arriving in Myanmar within days, said Major General Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson for the State Administration Council (SAC).

He was responding to the media question about rumours over fuel shortages and long queues to buy fuel in some cities.

“A vessel unloaded fuels at Thilawa port yesterday. Today, four more ships are unloading fuels there. We are about 60,000 tons (about 1.3 million gallons) 92Ron and 95Ron octane, premium diesel and diesel. We have about 27,000 tons of 92 Ron, over 3,000 tons of 65 Ron, 6,000 tons of diesel and over 22,6000 tons of premium diesel. A 20,000-ton vessel will arrive on August 18 and another 23,000-ton vessel on August 19. Twelve oil tankers will be entering within a few days,” Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said.

He also warned against rumours circulating about fuels in Myanmar.

“What I want to say is that there are some spreading rumours intentionally. Don’t believe that. This is instigation. Global oil prices are increasing. But our government is making plans to enable people to buy fuels at fair prices. For our part, we are making arrangements to reduce tax and sell foreign currency to import oil,” he added.

He pointed out the rumours spread on August 13 leading to panic buying in Mandalay city on August 14.
