The State Administration Council (SAC) announced that it had arrested several members of the Arakan Army (AA) for their involvement in drug trafficking.
The SAC spokesperson, Major General Zaw Min Tun, said that the security forces had seized over 2 tons of methamphetamine (Ice) worth worth of 51.87 billion kyats and 800 kilograms of caffeine, a restricted chemical, in a series of raids across Yangon and Sagaing regions.
The SAC claimed that the AA was using the profits from illegal businesses, such as online gambling, to buy weapons and form an armed group to protect their interests. The SAC urged the public to oppose the subversive insurgents and cooperate with the security forces to combat terrorism.
The SAC also discussed the Myanmar-China bilateral relations, the repatriation of illegal residents in Laukkai, and the peace and stability of the border region with the Royal Thai Army Joint Operations Director at a meeting, according to the SAC spokesperson.
