Retired brigadier general and his son-in-law shot dead in Hline Township

Former Ambassador and retired Brigadier General Ohn Thwin and his son-in-law, retired army captain Ye Tayza, were shot dead in front of their house in Ward No.12, Hline Township, Yangon Region, at about 3 pm on September 24, local sources said.

Among those killed after being accused of being military informants since the Myanmar military took over State responsibilities were retired civil servants and war veterans. Of them, U Ohn Thwin, who was just murdered, was of the highest rank. 

“The incident happened in front of a house in Thabawa Yeik Nyein Street just before 3pm. Neighbours said that a retired ambassador and another man were shot dead. Police and soldiers then arrived and blocked the street for checks,” said a local resident.

A source close to the police said it was true such an incident happened and investigation was going on.

NOM news agency reported in a post on its Telegram channel that retired Ambassador U Ohn Thwin, aged 72, and his son-in-law were shot by unidentified gunmen from a blue Honda Fit while they were opening the door of their house after arriving back. Both died at the scene. 

A group named Inya Urban Force wrote a Facebook post claiming responsibility for the killings.
