The news that Acting President U Myint Swe has passed away is false, and he is currently receiving medical treatment, according to Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson for the National Defence and Security Council.

In response to questions about reports claiming that Acting President U Myint Swe had died on the morning of August 6, Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun clarified:

“The news about Acting President U Myint Swe’s death is not true. He is currently receiving medical treatment at No. 2 Military Hospital.”

According to medical examinations, U Myint Swe is in a critical condition and is being treated in the intensive care unit at No. 2 Military Hospital (1,000-bed), the Council’s information team announced on August 5.

Since early 2023, U Myint Swe had experienced slower movement and difficulty eating, leading a team of senior specialists to conduct thorough medical checks. Test results showed that he was suffering from Parkinson’s disease and related neurological disorders.

He underwent medical treatment at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Medical Center from April 15 to 19, 2024, and at No. 2 Military Hospital from May 27 to June 18, 2024.

After being discharged, his health continued to be monitored by a special medical team led by Union Minister for Health, Prof. Dr. Thet Khaing Win. However, his condition did not improve significantly. Since July 18, 2024, he had been resting at home on medical leave and receiving ongoing treatment.

In July 2025, U Myint Swe experienced weight loss, poor appetite, fever, and decreased consciousness. As a result, he was readmitted to No. 2 Military Hospital (1,000-bed) on July 24 for further treatment, the statement said.
