Prime Minister U Nyo Saw has urged the creation of effective policies, investment opportunities, and market linkages to boost production and transition Myanmar from producing agricultural raw materials to manufacturing value-added products.

Speaking at the first meeting of the Central Committee for Industry and Industrial Zone Development (1/2025) held at the Ministry of Industry’s conference hall on October 3, the Prime Minister highlighted Myanmar’s advantages, including abundant natural resources, fertile farmland, and a young workforce. He emphasized that these strengths must be leveraged to adapt to the rapidly changing global economy.

As production is pivotal in the development of the State, governments in successive eras have been striving to enhance the productivity of the State and develop the industrial sector. Currently, the government is encouraging the industrial sector in accord with the motto: Let us encourage production for the prosperity of the Nation.

To enhance production, he called for the adoption of modern technologies, adherence to international quality standards, and support for quality control, research, and innovation. He also underscored the importance of strengthening vocational education and workplace skills training to build a capable industrial workforce.

Myanmar currently has 28 industrial zones, five industrial districts, and two industrial projects under construction. The Prime Minister urged the upgrading of existing zones and systematic development of new ones to promote the country’s industrial growth.

Emphasizing environmental conservation, he reiterated the state’s commitment to the slogan, “Let’s preserve the environment for a prosperous country.” He instructed that new and existing industrial zones prioritize greening initiatives and waste recycling, and that clear laws and regulations be implemented to prevent environmental damage.

U Nyo Saw also directed regional and state governments to inspect industrial zones to ensure compliance with established standards and to provide guidance and supervision where development is lagging.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue, a member of the Central Committee for Industry and Industrial Zone Development, presented official orders related to industrial zone management and development.

Then, the Union Minister of Industry, Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee for Industry and Industrial Zone Development, made a presentation on the history of Myanmar’s industrial zones, the formation of committees, and the activities undertaken for industrial development.

Then, the Union Ministers and Deputy Ministers, who are members of the committee, made presentations on the relevant sectors to ensure the successful implementation of the activities in accordance with the provisions of the Industrial Zone Law and Rules.

Then, the Chairman of the Central Committee for Industry and Industrial Zone Development, Prime Minister U Nyo Saw, coordinated the discussions and made the necessary arrangements, made a concluding speech, and adjourned the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Union Ministers, Deputy Ministers, heads of departments, and officials.
