President Win Myint will pay a visit to the Republic of India in near future for the first international tour in 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

It will be the President’s first state visit to India at the invitation of Indian President Ram Nath Kovind.

“During his visit, the President will meet the Indian President and Prime Minister. He will also sign some agreements. Bilateral coordination has been made for multilateral sectors,” said Aung Ko, director general of the Political Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

However, he did not mention which sectors would be included in signing memorandums of understanding, saying details will be released when the President starts his visit.

In 2019, President Win Myint attended the swearing-in of the Indian President for the second term, but it was not an official goodwill visit between the two countries.

The President Office did not say in its press release on which date the President will go to India. An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also refused to answer.

The Indian President paid an official visit to Myanmar from 10 to 14 December in 2018. He met President Win Myint and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.
