Plans are underway to use Scania branded buses in YBS bus lines in Yangon and discussion is being made with the Swiss Bank, said Yangon Region Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein at a ceremony to launch the Yangon circular bus line by City Transit Company on October 27 in Hlegu Township.

He said plans are underway to use Scanias despite their expensiveness.

"We want to operate Scania buses in YBS lines. We want to high-standard buses. They are very expensive. But we have step-by-step plans to realize the aim. We are also discussing with the Swiss Bank. We have visited Sweden to study Scania Company," the chief minister said.

Yangon Region Transport Authority is trying to ensure better quality in YBS buses and better security in buses and at bus stops for the development of the whole public transport system in the city, he added.

City Transit Co started operating the circular bus line with the use of 20 Scanias on September 23. Those buses have special equipment for the disabled.

Since the all bus line control system was changed into YBS (Yangon Bus Service), there have been around 100 bus lines. YRTA has issued registrations for 6,635 buses, and over 4,500 buses transport 1.8 million people in Yangon daily.
